IPL 2025 Mega Auction Date, Salary Cap,

IPL 2025 Mega Auction Date: The mega auction is scheduled to be held this year before the start of the Indian Premier League 2025. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may change the retention rule ahead of the upcoming mega auction of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

IPL 2025 Auction: Purse Limit Can Be Increased

BCCI’s acting CEO and IPL in-charge Hemang Amin recently sought the views of the CEOs of the franchises on the salary cap and policy for the next 3 years.

He was also asked about the RTM card. The Indian board has said that it will announce the decision in the meeting between the owners, which will be held later this month. The CEOs of the franchises were also asked about the players’ purses.

At present, the team’s purse is Rs 100 crore. Now, the opinion has been given that the salary cap should be kept between Rs 110-120 crore, but it can be increased by Rs 20 crore.

IPL 2025 Mega Auction Date

The IPL 2025 Mega Auction is likely to be a 2-day process like in 2022, the auction took place in February month. The IPL 2023 auction and IPL 2024 mini-auction were held in December. So the IPL 2025 Mega Auction could be possible at the same time in December 2024 & February 2025.

Decision Can Also Be Taken Regarding Impact Of Player Rule

The report also said that the impact player rule was also discussed. The media rights holders are happy with this, but the coaching staff is not very happy with this rule.

This rule was first implemented in IPL 2023 and was also implemented in IPL 2024, but players including Rohit Sharma criticized it and said that this rule is taking away a lot from the game, but it could be made a little entertaining for the fans.

According to Cricbuzz, several franchises have requested to increase the number of players to be retained for the next three seasons. As expected, the opinions of the 10 franchises have been varied, but most have demanded more retention than last time.

As per the old rules, the BCCI allowed franchises to retain a maximum of four players, with the condition that there cannot be more than three Indian and two foreign players. The cricket board will take a final decision on the retention policy after meeting with the franchise owners later this month.

Salary Cap May Also Increase

According to Cricbuzz, the CEOs of all the franchises have asked the BCCI to increase the salary cap. It was increased by 5% from IPL 2023 to 2024. Now, hopefully, we can see an increase of at least 10% before the IPL 2025 mega auction. If that happens then the limit can be 110 crores-120 crores.

As per the IPL rules, a franchise can buy 25 players (maximum 8 overseas). This means that the teams will have Rs 110-120 crores to buy these players.

Of course, some of these players will be retained as well. The increase in the salary cap will allow the franchises to play freely at the auction table and they will not have to worry about their purse.
